What is the Career Academy at SFCC?
The Career Academy at SFCC is an entire learning experience on the SFCC Highlands Campus. You’ll attend high school classes, taught by high school instructors, during one half of the day. During the other half of the day, you’ll attend college-level classes alongside other college students.
SUPPORT SERVICES
An important aspect of the Career Academy is the variety of services provided to enable students to gain the most from the Career Academy experience.
- ADVISING AND COUNSELING
Guidance services will be available through SFCC, Academy faculty and staff, and the school of record.
- COLLEGE INFORMATION
Current college catalogs, career information, and scholarship information are readily available for student use.
- LIBRARY SERVICES
Students will have full access to SFCC library services. The SFCC Highlands Campus library, housed on the upper floor of the Learning Resource Center (LRC), is open 8 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Friday; and 2 - 6 p.m. Sunday. With qualified staff ready to help, this full-service facility houses standard volumes together with newspapers, journals, and thousands of e-books. In addition, 14 computer stations are loaded with an array of search engines for students' personal use.
- TUTORING AND LEARNING CENTER (TLC)
The TLC is situated on the ground floor of the LRC. Three fully staffed computer labs have state-of-the-art programs to assist with math, reading/writing, and general studies. The TLC is a place where students can get help from expert faculty and staff, free of charge. The TLC is open 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Fridays.
- FOOD SERVICE
Students may purchase meals through the school district or the SFCC cafeteria. Qualifications for meal benefits will be the same as the school of record and will only apply to school district provided meals.
- BUS TRANSPORTATION AND SCHEDULE
Three separate bus routes will serve the three communities (Avon Park, Sebring, and Lake Placid). Buses will pick up students at central locations within the communities and transport them to the Career Academy. Due to the starting time of classes, the pickup times will be earlier than the high school bus routes. Riding the school bus is a privilege that may be denied if behavior is inappropriate or causes a safety hazard.
- ON-CAMPUS PARKING POLICIES
Parking on the Career Academy at SFCC Campus is restricted to faculty, staff, Career Academy at SFCC students (10th through 12th graders), parents, and authorized visitors. Students wishing to park on campus must complete a SBHC Random Drug Testing Form, submit proof of insurance, and a vehicle registration. Career Academy at SFCC students must display SFCC parking decals on their vehicles.
- LOST AND FOUND
The lost and found area is in the Career Academy main office. Any item found or lost should be reported promptly. The student must be able to identify the lost property before it is returned to them. Items not claimed by Winter Break and the end of the school year will be disposed of by Career Academy personnel.
