SFSC’s continuing education courses help firefighters and EMS personnel keep pace with clinical care developments. Courses that facilitate the recertification of EMTs and paramedics are:

Life Support Provider Courses

Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers

Teaches proper CPR techniques to health care workers and the public. (EMZ 0216 is an eight-hour class.)

Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider Course

This American Heart Association course is designed for health care workers. Students learn how to evaluate and manage the first 10 minutes of adult ventricular fibrillation/ventricular tachycardia (VF/VT) arrest. (EMZ 0205 is a 16-hour course.) Advanced Cardiac Life Support Renewal Course is for students with an ACLS Provider card. (EMZ 0205 is an eight-hour course.)

Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider Course

This American Heart Association course is for health care workers who may respond to the cardiac emergencies of critically ill infants and children. (EMZ 0105 is a 16-hour course.) Pediatric Advanced Life Support Renewal Course is for students with an PALS Provider card. (EMZ 0105 is an eight-hour course.)

Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) Provider Course

This course prepares health care providers to deal with cases of severe cardiopulmonary distress in children and contact the next level of care early. (EMZ 0112 is an eight hour course.)

Acute Coronary Syndromes Provider Course

Developed by the University of Miami, School of Medicine, this course trains health care providers to recognize the early signs of acute coronary syndromes and provide treatment. (EMZ 0212 is an eight-hour course.)

Acute Stroke Life Support Provider Course

This course was developed by the University of Miami, School of Medicine, to train health care providers to recognize the early signs of stroke. (EMZ 0213 is an eight-hour course.)

Emergency Vehicle Operators Course

This course instructs students how to operate an ambulance correctly. It meets the state of Florida (FAC 64E-2.012) requirements for ambulance operation. (EMZ 0296 is a 16-hour course.)

American Heart Association Instructor Courses

Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor Course

This course prepares students to teach the Advance Cardiac Life Support Provider Course. Prerequisites: AHA Core Instructor Course and a current ACLS Provider card. (EMZ 0210 is an eight-hour course.)

CPR Instructor

Students are trained to teach the Basic Life Support for Health care Providers course. Prerequisites: AHA Core Instructor Course. (EMZ 0518 is an eight-hour course.)

Pediatric Advance Life Support Instructor Course

Students are trained to teach the Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor Course. Prerequisites are the AHA Core Instructor Course and a current PALS Provider card. (EMZ 0110 is an eight-hour course.)
