The ACCUPLACER Next Generation (NG) is a state approved common placement test. The purpose of the ACCUPLACER NG is to determine accurate course placement based on the student’s skills and abilities. ACCUPLACER NG is an integrated system of computer-adaptive assessments designed to evaluate students’ skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. This means that the questions are chosen for you on the basis of your answers to previous questions. This technique selects just the right questions for your ability level. Because the test works this way, you must answer every question in the order it is given. You can change your answer to a particular question before moving on to the next question, but you cannot leave a question out or come back to it later to change your answer. If you do not know the answer to a question, try to eliminate one or more of the choices. Then pick from the remaining choices.
Accuplacer Next Generation (QAS) and (AAF) Test
The Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra and Statistics (QAS) and Advance Algebra and Functions (AAF) are designed for STEM Pathway students wishing to take higher level math courses but who feel they can by-pass lower level courses. South Florida State College uses an ACCUPLACER Next Generation subtest to place students into higher level math courses above the College Algebra level.
Ability to Benefit Test (ABT)
All applicants applying for Federal Financial Aid for post-secondary education must show ability to benefit from a college education. Students without a high school diploma, GED or equivalent can show ability to benefit by receiving qualifying scores on an ATB test. This test is untimed; however, three hours should be set aside for the administration of this test.
Scheduling
All QAS, AAF and ATB exams are given by appointment only and requires at least 24 hours advanced notice. To schedule an appointment, click on “Schedule Your Test” above. To take the exam, you must meet with an advisor before you schedule an appointment. Once you have met with an advisor, contact your desired SFSC testing location to determine their specific testing times and to schedule your appointment.
Please contact your institution to find out if they will accept SFSC Testing Center inventory or if they will provide us with their information. If your institution provides us information, you will be charged as a distance learner for the exam. If not, you will be charged as a non-SFSC student.
The SFSC Testing Center only tests QAS, AAF and ATB. Any other subject area will need to be provided by your institution or you may need to locate another testing center.
Exam Day
On the day of your exam, bring in a valid form of government-issued photo identification. If you do not present a valid ID, your test will be rescheduled. Valid forms of ID are:
- A current driver’s license
- A high school ID
- A college ID
- A current state or federal ID card
- A current passport
- A tribal ID card
- A naturalization card or certificate of citizenship
Arrive at least 15 minutes before your testing appointment.
Store electronic devices and personal items in a secure locker at the testing center.
Children and guests are not allowed in the testing area. Children may not be left unattended at the Testing Center or other areas of the college while you take your exam.
Fees
If a fee is associated with the QAS, AAF or ATB exam, you will be required to pay it on exam day. The fee structure is as follows:
- $25 for test-takers who are not SFSC students
- $10 (per section) for non-SFSC students who are retaking the exam
- $5 (per section) for SFSC students only
- $15 for distance learner with other institution, information provided
Retesting
QAS and AAF: If you need to retake the QAS and AAF, you must wait 30 days between administrations, participate in some form of remediation, and obtain a referral from Advising and Counseling.
ATB: Students who do not receive qualifying scores on their ATB test are eligible for one re-test. Students who wish to re-test must wait a minimum of two weeks to allow time for study and review. The retest does not change course placements. Students who do not qualify on the retest will be advised of their options.
