Kevin Brown has been with South Florida Community College for the last seven years. He is a Florida native, born and raised in Hardee County, and an SFCC graduate. After completing his bachelor’s degree from Florida Southern at Lakeland, and master’s degree from Nova Southeast, he taught for 14 years in the public school system, and worked in the Hardee district office for another five before moving to Highlands County.

Our goal is to work with the school districts to develop course offerings. It’s important to be very involved in the community. We are fortunate that the college and all three school districts have a close working relationship working on technical programs.

People are different and need options and opportunities. Which is why the college offers many different degree and occupational license programs. Students can study for an Associate in Science degree or an Associate in Applied Science Degree, or college credit and occupational programs. Some apprenticeships are available too.

Computer education has become very important, however, because so many occupations rely on computers, whether it’s police or automotive mechanics. In fact, because of computers, mechanics are actually more technicians these days.
