Text Box: The Division of Arts and Sciences offers academic courses taught at a world-class level, at convenient times and locations, and at a community-college price.

The faculty and support staff of the Division of Arts and Sciences are committed to a learner-centered teaching philosophy emphasizing critical thinking and integrated learning. Our small classes and personalized instruction help students achieve their full potential for success. All Arts and Sciences faculty members hold advanced degrees in their subject areas, and all are dedicated to sharing their knowledge with students. As instructors, we combine up-to-date communications technologies with proven teaching techniques to create a community of teacher/learners where "Performance Counts."

Our academic course offerings make it possible for students to finish the first two years of a four-year college degree at SFCC campuses, and support the growing number of baccalaureate degree programs being offered on the SFCC Highlands campus.

Our courses will also satisfy the general education requirements for two-year technical degrees. (Consult your program director for specific technical programs’ requirements.)

We offer college preparatory courses in mathematics, English/writing, and reading to help students attain the skills needed for entry into college credit courses, and support students through the facilities available at our Tutoring and Learning Center (TLC).

Our distance learning, technology-enhanced, and hybrid courses help students with busy schedules and multiple responsibilities overcome the barriers of time and distance, and get on the track toward achieving their educational goals.

Our Honors Program offers high-achieving students academically rigorous classes with restricted enrollment, opportunities for self-directed learning, leadership training, and college trips to cultural events.

In courses offering service-learning experiences, students apply classroom concepts in a community setting, providing service while deepening their academic understanding.

The Division of Arts and Sciences includes: the Departments of Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Social/Behavioral Sciences, General Studies, and English; the Honors Program and the Service-Learning Program; and the Tutoring and Learning Center (TLC).
