Twelve John Deere mechanics, from all over southern Florida, and two John Deere Pro Tech instructors from Senatobia, Mississippi, Terry Schumann and Jimmy Presley, attended a computer training class at SFCC June 28 to July 1 2004. The mechanics were there to learn the second level of tractor computer diagnostics.
Terry said that tractors today have “auto steer.” You just set the computer where you want the tractor to go, and it drives itself. He also said, “For safety reasons you are required to have an operator in the driver’s seat.”
When asked why they chose the DeSoto Campus for their computer training, Terry stated, “This new facility in Arcadia is centrally located for our attendees, although we have and will again use the Avon Park campus.” Terry and Jimmy train mechanics all the way from Saskatoon, Canada, to Belle Glade, Fla.; to El Campo, Texas.
