Take Stock in Children

To be in the program, children must:

· Be selected in the sixth grade by a committee of teachers and community representatives

· Sign a contract agreeing to stay drug and crime-free

· Maintain satisfactory grades

· Exhibit good behavior in school

· Have a financial need and be determined to succeed

Upon graduation from high school, each student who has honored the Take Stock in Children commitment receives a full tuition scholarship to college or to a vocational/technical school.  By becoming a Take Stock in Children sponsor or mentor, you give a child hope for the future and contribute to the future of our community.

Become a mentor.

You can change a child’s life by becoming a mentor.  By showing a child that someone cares, you will help him become a productive citizen.  After  completing an application and the screening process.  Then you will receive some basic training. You will be matched with a student who can benefit most from your influence.

As a mentor, you:

· Meet once a week with your student for one hour at his or her school

· Become a friend, tutor, and a role model

· Help build a child’s foundation of basic values

· Assist your student in setting goals and attaining them

· Guide a child toward an education and a productive life

· Give a child hope for the future

How does the mentoring process work?

Your weekly mentoring session will take place on the school campus at a time that is convenient for both you and your student.  In addition, you’ll have the support of Take Stock throughout the mentoring process.

Sponsor a Scholarship

As a scholarship sponsor with Take Stock in Children, you provide a child hope for the future through education.  Gifts of $50, $360 (just $1 a day for a year), or $1,000 will help fund a deserving student’s scholarship.  As an exclusive sponsor, your gift of $12,000 will not only provide a full four-year college scholarship, but will also provide the costs of mentoring and student advocacy for six years.  As a scholarship sponsor, you are giving the greatest gift of all –education.
