Hello!  I’m so glad you have decided to take an education course this semester.  Working together, we can create an engaging, meaningful learning experience.  I truly want this semester to be a positive, valuable one for you.  May I tell you about myself?

Experience

Being a teacher has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.  I began teaching elementary school in 1991.  I have taught kindergarten and fourth grade.  Although most of my experience is in the elementary grades, I have also taught preschool and substituted in middle and high schools. In 2000, I was very honored to be voted Teacher of the Year by my peers. Throughout my teaching career, I have served in many different capacities including conducting teacher workshops, serving as grade level chairperson, and mentoring student teachers.  In 2003, I received clinical educator trainer certification from the Florida Department of Education.  I joined the faculty of South Florida Community College in the fall of 2003.  I enjoy teaching preservice teachers immensely!

Education

Just like you, I, too, attended a community college.  I attended Elizabethtown Community College and then finished my Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Kentucky.  At UK, I served as a Dean’s Ambassador.  In this position, I met with prospective students and their families and represented the student body at alumni functions.  As you can tell by visiting my office, I am a big UK basketball fan.  I received my Master of Arts degree from the University of Central Florida.  While at UCF, I was a graduate assistant.  I substituted for professors and researched educational topics for them.  I learned a lot and had a great time, too!

I am very pleased that you have chosen to participate in an education course at SFCC.  I look forward to working with you.  Please let me know how I can help you.  Feel free to visit me to discuss any questions or concerns or just to say, “Hi!” If you are off campus, please email me or call me.  I usually check my email three times a day and will respond promptly.  Welcome to our SFCC education program!
