The Jacaranda Residence Facility is closed during Thanksgiving holiday, winter break, and spring break.
Thanksgiving: The facility closes at noon on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and reopens at noon on the Sunday following Thanksgiving. Students must leave the facility during this time.
Winter Break: Students are required to leave the facility within 24 hours of their last final exam. The facility reopens on the Monday prior to the beginning of spring term.
Spring Break: The facility is closed for eight days from noon on the first Saturday of spring break to noon on the Sunday that is the final day of spring break. Exceptions may be made for baseball and softball players who must participate in scheduled games during the break.
Graduating students are required to leave the facility by noon on the day of commencement. Students who are not graduating must leave within 24 hours of their last exam or by noon the day of commencement, depending on whichever is earlier.
Students are responsible for the general cleanliness of their rooms and shared bathrooms. Dates of monthly health and safety inspections are announced in advance. Among other things, the inspections look for:
- Open food containers
- Trash not properly discarded
- Floors generally clear of debris
- Unwashed dishes and cooking utensils
Students who fail an inspection are given 24 hours to correct any deficiencies. If they fail a second inspection, they are fined $25 and an invoice is mailed to their Panther Den email account. Any subsequent failures can result in stiffer fines, students not be allowed to return for a subsequent academic term, or eviction.
Maintenance problems should be reported to the Hotel Jacaranda’s front desk. These include ceiling light bulbs that need to be replaced, water leaks or other water problems, or heat and air conditioning not working. The inability to connect to the Internet should be reported to the SFSC Foundation Office.
Mail for students is delivered to the hotel’s front desk. Students are expected to regularly check their mailboxes.
Holds are placed on the accounts of students who fail to pay rent or fines in a timely manner and may result in students being locked out of their rooms. Before this occurs, an invoice is sent to the student’s Panther Den email account and a copy is sent to the parents.
More information about the Jacaranda Residence Facility and policies for student residents is available in the Jacaranda Residence Facility Student Handbook.
