Q: What position openings do you currently have?
A: Position Vacancies are advertised in the local newspapers and are posted in the Human Resources lobby located in Building I of the Highlands Campus in Avon Park. Current position announcements also appear on SFCC’s Web site and campus e-mail. Faculty and administrative positions are typically advertised in nationally recognized publications.

Q: Is an application required?
A: Yes. When completing the application, please provide all requested information. To supplement the application, transcripts, resumes, and other supporting materials are suggested.

Q: Are faxes or copies of an application accepted?
A: Human Resources will accept a fax or photocopy of the application form provided the correct position title, applicant’s original signature, and current date appear on the fax or photocopy AND it is received by the published deadline. Public use copiers are available in the Library and the Campus Bookstore.

Q: What if the application deadline has passed?
A: An application received after the published deadline date will not be considered.

Q: How are interviews scheduled and hiring determinations made?
A: After the deadline, applications are reviewed by Human Resources staff to ensure that all applicants meet the minimum requirements of the job. The applications are then forwarded to a screening committee for review and selection of interviewees. After interviews and reference checks are conducted, an offer of employment will be made to the recommended candidate. Candidates who interview for the position will be notified that a hiring decision was made.

Q: Will my application remain active for other positions that I’m qualified for?
A: No. A new application must be submitted for each position you wish to apply for. Applications are accepted only for posted positions. Any materials received that cannot be applied to an open position will be returned to the applicant.

Q: What if I'm interested in more than one position?
A: An application form is required for each position. Human Resources will accept photocopies of application forms provided the correct position title, applicant’s original signature, and current date appear on the photocopy. Public-use copiers are available in the Learning Resources Center (LRC) and Campus Bookstore for a minimal charge.

Q: Is a background check conducted on all applicants recommended for employment?
A: Yes. A thorough background check including employment references, personal references, criminal records, and fingerprinting is conducted for all recommended candidates.

Q: Do I qualify for Veteran’s Preference?
A: Veteran’s preference will be given to eligible veterans and spouses of veterans for career service positions. Appropriate documentation must be furnished at the time of application. For more information on eligibility, please visit the U.S. Department of Labor Web site.
