Title: Americans with Disabilities Act Compliance

Legal Authority: Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990

South Florida State College shall comply with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act and with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and other laws protecting the rights of persons with disabilities.

The college is committed to providing opportunities to qualified persons with disabilities in employment and in access to education, where this will not pose an undue burden or fundamentally alter the programs of the institution.

The Board of Trustees authorizes the president to make compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) a priority of the institution and to take the following steps:

  1. Implement procedures for raising awareness of the requirements of the ADA at all levels of the institution, including administrators, faculty, and supervisors.
  2. Take steps to coordinate responses to requests from individuals with disabilities and respond to those requests in a timely fashion.
  3. Appoint an ADA Coordinator with sufficient powers, authority, and staff to ensure compliance with the ADA.
  4. Take necessary steps to comply with the ADA, unless these pose an undue burden or would result in a fundamental alteration of programs of the institution.
