On June 30, 2013, South Florida State College’s third president, Dr. Norman L. Stephens Jr., will step down after serving the college for 11 years. A 25-member screening committee has been formed to search for his successor and is assisted in its work by the nationally recognized search consultant, Dr. Jeff Hockaday. The president is appointed by the Board of Trustees, and the committee plans to make its recommendation to the board in the spring.
The college celebrates a remarkable last decade and looks forward to an even brighter future. It begins the search for a new president from a position of strength. The college has enjoyed three distinguished presidents since it was established in 1965, was recently approved to offer bachelor’s degree programs, has been recognized for excellence in education, has become a culture of data-informed decision making and continuous improvement, is financially sound, has developed programs to nurture student success, and is known for working in tandem with the community to serve its needs.
This site has been established as a way of keeping the college community informed. The District Board of Trustees has sought input from students, faculty, staff, alumni, and residents of the college district of DeSoto, Hardee, and Highlands counties. We hope that you will visit this site often in the coming months, as it will be updated periodically.
