Testing

Paper-Based GED testing ends in September!

The current GED test series will close-out Dec. 2013. Beginning Jan. 1, 2014 the test will be new and only offered on computer. Scores from the current series will not transfer. The last paper-based administration will be in Sept. Retake sessions will be offered in Oct., Nov., and Dec. For more information, contact the Testing Center at the Highlands Campus at 863-784-7214.

The GED tests are required to be awarded the State of Florida High School Diploma. Students who desire to take the GED test at South Florida State College must first take the Test of Adult Basic Education test (TABE) and achieve 9.0 grade level on all sub-tests before they can enroll in the GED preparation program. After achieving TABE scores at the 11.0 grade level from the GED Preparation program, students take the Pre-GED test as necessary. All scores of 450 or above and the total score of at least 2300 permits a student to take the GED. Having completed these requirements, students may then request permission to register for the GED test. Students must attain standard scores of 410 or above on each of the five GED sub-tests and a total of 2250 or greater. The five tests are Writing, Mathematics, Social Studies, Reading, and Science.

The test is given once a month in the SFSC Testing Center. It is a two-day test consisting of approximately four hours at each sitting. Cost is $70 for the complete battery. To sign up for the GED test, stop by the Testing Center at least one week prior to the test date, as seating is limited and slots are scheduled on a first-come basis. Bring the $70 test fee and either a current Florida driver's license, state issued photo ID, or current passport.

Students with disabilities may request GED test accommodations by contacting the SFSC Testing Center.
