Student Support Services

Academic Advising and Monitoring

Students receive individual assistance in planning, scheduling, and registration for classes. Students meet with their advisor at least three times during the academic term to address academic progress toward academic goal.


The TRiO program offers scheduled one-on-one and small group tutoring in multiple subjects, including math, science and English. Program staff will also coordinate referrals for tutoring to the SFSC Tutoring and Learning Center and various academic departments.

Transfer Advising

Students will receive individual and/or group assistance in preparation for transfer to four-year colleges and universities. College search materials,, and program-sponsored visits to area colleges will be available. Program staff will work with admissions and financial aid staff at transfer institutions and coordinate with TRiO programs on those campuses.

Financial Aid/ Financial Literacy Advising

Students will receive individual and/or group assistance in exploring and applying for financial aid. TRiO staff will work with the Financial Aid Office to ensure that students’ financial needs are met. TRiO staff will work closely with students in educating on financial literacy.


Students will receive notifications of scholarships and institutional scholarship deadlines. Program staff are available to proofread scholarship essays and provide letters of recommendation.


Workshops are offered during each academic term featuring topics such as time management, reading comprehension, note taking, career exploration and planning, and much more!

Career Advising

Students will receive individual and/or group assistance in career exploration and planning. Program staff and Career Development Center staff will work together to provide students with workshops or small group sessions that will allow them to explore and plan their careers.
