Welcome to Academics at
South Florida State College

The College has three major tracks: the baccalaureate degree, the Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree that can lead to a university transfer, and technical workforce programs leading to an Associate in Science (A.S.) degree, certificate, or diploma.

For the baccalaureate programs offered through SFSC, both Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) require students to complete the associate degree (either A.A. or A.S.) prior to admission.

The Associate in Arts degree is the primary degree used for transfer to other colleges and universities. Students in the A.A. program complete 36 credits of general education courses required by all state colleges and universities and customize other course selections with specific electives required by the transfer institution. Completion of the A.A. guarantees that students will be admitted to Florida colleges or universities as a junior-level student, although it does not guarantee that students will be admitted to their program of choice at the four-year institution. Students should work closely with SFSC college advisors and transfer institution advisors as they select course work in the A.A. program.

A variety of workforce programs are available at SFSC. The Associate in Science (A.S.) programs are two years in length, prepare students for entry into the workforce, and may transfer to four-year institutions. Other workforce programs are one year or less and provide training for immediate entry into jobs. These programs are the College Credit Certificate (CCC), Career Certificate (CC), and Apprenticeship (APP).
