SFSC Storm Watch

Aug. 4, 2024, 5:45 p.m. – SFSC will be open tomorrow. However, there could still be some localized flooding. Please be cautious and allow extra travel time as necessary.


Aug. 3, 2024, 10:45 a.m. – A state of emergency was declared in select counties of Florida, including DeSoto, Hardee, and Highlands counties as Tropical Depression Four is expected to strengthen to Tropical Storm Debby by this evening. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for DeSoto and Hardee counties. The storm is expected to bring several days of heavy rain and flooding to Florida in the coming days.

Aug. 2, 2024, 2:10 p.m. – South Florida State College (SFSC) is currently monitoring Tropical Cyclone Four. Although the storm is not expected to impact College operations, please continue to check southflorida.edu, Facebook, X, and Instagram for notices. 

In preparation for storm activity, sand is available at:

  • South George Boulevard, Sebring
  • Old Bombing Range Road and County Road 17 East, Avon Park
  • County Road 621 and County Road 619, Lake Placid

Please bring a shovel and a partner to help, if necessary. 

Residents of surrounding communities should check the weather in their county before traveling to SFSC.
