ESOL classes at South Florida State College offer students, with beginning to advanced level English language skills, the opportunity to learn through a series of classes. Students gain English abilities through reading, writing, listening and speaking. Instructors for the classes are specialists in teaching English to ESOL students and use real life situations in the classroom to have the most impact for student learning.

South Florida State College ESOL classes can help students:

  • Learn or improve English skills.
  • Develop the skills needed to find a job or get a promotion.
  • Prepare for college-level academic courses at South Florida State College.

Requirements for ESOL:

Before you may take the CASAS test, you must be admitted by the South Florida State College Admissions Office. Bring a valid government issued picture ID with you.

Admissions of ESOL students to South Florida State College

Use the following to help determine eligibility:

  1. Naturalized U.S. Citizen (U.S. citizen certificate, U.S. passport, or voter registration card)
  2. Resident alien/Permanent Resident (Green card)
  3. Visas with letters A, E, G, or L stamped separately on it (government officials)
  4. H-1B (work permit)
  5. H-4 (spouse or child of an H-1B)
  6. Passport with the letter I (media), K (fiancée/child of U.S. Citizen), or N (parent/child accorded special immigrant status)
  7. NATO passport stamped with O-3 (family member of NATO officials) or R (religious worker)
  8. Political Asylum

Ineligible Visas

The following are ineligible visas and may not enroll in the ESOL courses. Applicants must verify they are not in the United States on one of the Visa’s listed below.

  1. Student Visas (F-1/F-2, M-1/M-2 or J-1/J-2)
  2. Tourist Visa (B-1/B-2)
  3. Visa Waiver

If using a valid foreign government issued passport, a copy of the passport and visa must be attached with the ESOL application of admissions.
