The SFSC Gulf Scholars Program is a partnership with Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). This program will support SFSC students through coursework, research opportunities, field experiences, and interactions with regional subject experts on issues pertaining to the regional area.
SFSC Gulf Scholars will thrive as leaders in positive change in Central Florida through critical examination of self and community. With an interdisciplinary approach and an emphasis on community outreach and cooperation through a mix of coursework and research projects, undergraduates will learn to identify and address the big issues faced by our region. Students can work on existing projects or create a project of their own.
Students of all backgrounds and disciplines are encouraged to participate and interact with the program. If you are passionate about change and making a difference fin your community, this program is for you!
Next steps:
- Apply to SFSC
- Commit to all the requirements to graduate with the official designation
- Take Gulf Scholars courses
- Do research or a service-learning project
Student benefits:
- An official Gulf Scholars program recommendation letter to transfer to the institution of your choice, including FGCU as a Gulf Scholar and continue the program there
- FGCU and SFSC will participate in field experiences and guest speaker engagements together
- Transportation provided to FGCU; visits will occur at SFSC as well
- Strengthen transfer application, opportunities like this are usually only offered at four-year universities
- Micro-credentialing
- Graduation regalia
- Designation on your transcript upon completion of the full program cohort
- Participate in research conferences and forums to share your research and network
- Connect with fellow SFSC students/instructors and FGCU students/instructors through activities and research
