Performing Arts and Culture for Students (PACS) is a voluntary program for part-time and full-time SFSC students. This project encourages students to attend a minimum of three performing or cultural arts performances, exhibits, festivals, museums, or sites.
One week before the end of a semester, students submit their selfies and paper to PACS@southflorida.edu for consideration.
Goals and objectives
Engage SFSC students in a variety of arts and cultural activities in order to:
- Promote cultural literacy and creativity through events within the surrounding community
- Build students’ cultural interests and identity through related experiences
- Enhance students’ critical thinking, academic writing, and artistic skills
Project scope and activities
PACS is not a required program – students elect to participate. During a single semester, student participants will choose to attend at least three arts and/or cultural activities in the following categories:
- Museum
- Theater
- Arts Festival
- Cultural Landmark
- Jazz, Folk or Classical Music Concert
Students will prepare their project submission packet to include:
- Photos or “selfies” at each of the arts or cultural event they have attended with the appropriate caption and date
- A two-page, single spaced reflection paper/ response to one of the three prompts below:
- Describe the cultural event that had the strongest emotional impact on you
- Explain how your experience changed your outlook on cultural appreciation
- Tell why you think this event had a profound effect on you

Alan Jay Wildstein Center for the Performing Arts
There are 10 complimentary student seats available at the Artist and Trending Now performances. Students must visit the box office with a valid student ID to receive a free ticket. Performances range from Broadway musicals to classical orchestral concerts. SFSC students receive free tickets to any Jazz Series performance. A valid student ID is required and the student must visit the SFSC Box Office.

Tour Lake Placid – Caladium Capital of the World
Lake Placid, Florida has, over time, become known as “The Town of Murals.” Harriet and Bob Porter, founders of the Lake Placid Mural Society, oversee over 20 years of mural creation throughout Lake Placid. There are currently more than 47 murals throughout the town.
