Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers – Teaches proper CPR techniques to health care workers and the public. (EMZ 0216 is an eight-hour class.)

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider Course – This American Heart Association course is designed for health care workers. Students learn how to evaluate and manage the first 10 minutes of adult ventricular fibrillation/ventricular tachycardia (VF/VT) arrest. (EMZ 0205 is a 16-hour course.) Advanced Cardiac Life Support Renewal Course is for students with an ACLS Provider card. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider Course – This American Heart Association course is for health care workers who may respond to the cardiac emergencies of critically ill infants and children. Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) Provider Course – This course prepares health care providers to deal with cases of severe cardiopulmonary distress in children and contact the next level of care early. (EMZ 0112 is an eight hour course.)

Acute Coronary Syndromes Provider Course – Developed by the University of Miami, School of Medicine, this course trains health care providers to recognize the early signs of acute coronary syndromes and provide treatment. (EMZ 0212 is an eight-hour course.)

Acute Stroke Life Support (ASLS) Provider Course – This course was developed by the University of Miami, School of Medicine, to train health care providers to recognize the early signs of stroke. (EMZ 0213 is an eight-hour course.)

CPR Training Class – CEUs: 4. Cost $60. Public Service Building, Room 101, Highlands Campus. Course covers new or renewal training in Healthcare Provide BLS (CPR and AED) through the American Heart Association is being offered for students who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. Emergency Vehicle Operators Course – This course instructs students how to operate an ambulance correctly. It meets the state of Florida (FAC 64E-2.012) requirements for ambulance operation. (EMZ 0296 is a 16-hour course.)

Course provides training for designated first responders or individuals needing credentialed training for job or regulatory requirements. Commercial Drivers License

CDL exams and refresher exams are scheduled by appointment only. For information, call Lorrie Key at 784-7033. 

CDL Refresher Class: This class “A” and “B” refresher course is for experienced drivers who have allowed their CDL to lapse or revert back to a Class “E” license. This course is offered in either 8-hour or 72-hour increments, depending on necessity and availability. It provides one-on-one training needed to pass the CDL skills test, providing the applicant is already competent in driving a class “A” or class “B” commercial vehicle.

The CDL Refresher Class does not train students with no truck-driving experience. If your goal is to become a truck driver and obtain your CDL, enroll in SFSC’s 10-week Commercial Vehicle Driving program. 

CDL Exam: The State of Florida CDL exam consists of three parts:

  • Pre-trip inspection. Applicants demonstrate that they know how to inspect a commercial vehicle as defined by the permit the applicant currently holds (“A” or “B”). This inspection is conducted in accordance with DOT standards set forth by the State of Florida. Criteria is heavily emphasized.
  • Basic Controls Skills Test: Applicants demonstrate that they can back and park a vehicle in a confined area, involving six possible exercises, as mandated by the State of Florida.
  • Driving Skills Test: Applicants demonstrate their ability to drive a commercial vehicle in most road situations, using all skills acquired in training. Tests lasts 30-45 minutes and is mandated by the State of Florida.
